I only started driving about ten years ago and nothing has felt more liberating. I wanted to write about that experience and how it feels to be driving along on a freeway with music in my ears and joy in my soul however, work drained all my energy. I haven’t been the best with poems or their kin but I gave it a shot, thought I’d try. Not bad for my first time I think, at least it’s funny eh.
Free and flowing
on route 66
first taste of freedom
first taste of America.
For six years
now and forever
freeways mean autonomy.
Freeways mean over seventy
anything under
is a SoCal reject
unless it rains
then you are a wonder.
What a lovely way to put that! I remember when I first got my driver’s license and the mixture of fear and freedom that came with it.

social reject until it rains…I hear you. I love driving too. I got a license as soon as I was old enough, nearly 40 years ago now. I’ve had a few driving jobs as well over the years. I never get tried of the feeling.

Well done! I don’t like driving and it is the only reason I would consider moving to a city so I could use public transportation.

I grew up in India, so I totally know what you mean. Driving is great but I do miss the convenience of public transport sometimes
